Tax-Free Online Shopping and Postal Shipments in Kosovo: A Complete Guide

Ordering items online or receiving gifts from abroad shouldn’t be a headache. At IMEX, we want to ensure your deliveries arrive as smoothly as possible. While we handle the heavy lifting, knowing the rules can save you from unexpected VAT and customs duties. Here is everything you need to know about current thresholds and exemptions.
Personal Gifts (Person-to-Person)
The 50€ Rule: Shipments sent from one individual to another (non-commercial) are exempt from customs duties up to a value of 50€.
To qualify for this exemption, the package must be:
Non-commercial: No payment involved (e.g., a birthday gift).
Personal: Intended strictly for personal or family use.
Occasional: Not part of a recurring, ongoing series of shipments.
Note: If a gift exceeds 50€, the exemption applies only to the first 50€. You cannot split the value of a single item to bypass this rule.

Online Purchases (Low-Value Shipments)
The 35€ Threshold: Any shipment of goods with a total value of up to 35€ (excluding transport costs) is completely exempt from customs duties.
Important Warning: This threshold applies to the total value of the package. If you order multiple items totaling more than 35€, the entire package will be taxed, even if individual items are inexpensive.
Exemptions Always Excluded: Regardless of the value, the following items are always subject to taxation:
Alcoholic beverages
Perfumes and eau de toilette
Tobacco and tobacco products
